| He was buried at Penistone William left a will mentioning Nicholas and Nicholas's son John. According to Bedford, William was of Snodhill. Also mentioned were his deceased brother Ralph and Ralph's son William, who was his godson.
In the name of God Amen the second day of July in the one and twentieth year of the reign of our sovereign lord King Charles over England Anno Domini 1645, I William Wordsworth of Snodonhill in the county of York, yeoman, being of good and perfect memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth. And first I give and yield up my soul into the hands and custody of Almighty God my creator and Jesus Christ my redeemer by the merit of whose death and passion I do assuredly believe to enjoy eternal blessedness; and do yield and lay down my body to the earth in sure and certain hope of a joyful resurrection to life eternal with the blessed saints and glorious angels in the kingdom of eternal glory. And for such worldly estate as God hath lent me, I do dispose thereof as followeth. And first I give and bequeath unto Jane my wife the moyety of half part of all my lands and tenements that is to ? of the messuage wherein I live and all the buidings, grounds and appurtenances thereunto to have hold and enjoy the said moyety unto her and her assigns for and during here naturall life for and in lieu of her right of dowry in and to the said lands and tenements; And I do also gove unto her the moyety of half part of all my goods chattels and debts for and in lieu of her right title and interest in and to my whole goods; And I do also give and bequeath unto William Wordsworth my godsonne, the son of Ralph Wordesworth my brother deceased the said messuage or tenement with all the houses, buildings, foulds, closes, lands, meadows, pastures, woods, commons and appurtenances whatsoever of me the said William Wordsworth in Snowdonhill aforesaid the one moyety or half part of all the said premises(?) in present possession immediately after my decease; and the other moyety thereof from and after the decease of the said Jane to have hold and enjoy unto him the said Wm Wordesworth and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten and to be begotten forever he the said William Wordesworth my Godsonne satisfying, discharging and paying unto Nicholas Wordesworth my brother the sum of twenty pounds current money within one year next after the decease of the said Jane my wife; and in case the said Nicholas shall then be dead then satisfying the same unto such of the said Nicholas' children as the said Nicholas by his last will shall appoint. And in default of the issue of the body of the said William my Godsonne to be begotten I do give and bequeath the ? of all the said lands commons and premises(?) unto John Wordsworth sonne of the said Nicholas my brother and to his heirs forever. And I do also give and bequeath the other moyety or half part of all my goods chattels and debts unto the said William Wordesworth my Godsonne whom I do ordain and make the executor of this my last will and testament that thereout he may discharge satisfy and pay further legacies as are hereafter mentioned that is I give to each of my brothers and sisters that shall be living at my decease except the said Nicholas the sum of ten shillings a ? in full satisfaction and discharge of all their right title and interest unto any my goods and chattels; Also I give unto my brothers and sisters child which shall live at my decease to each of them the sum of 6s 8d. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above said; Sealed published and delivered at the note of the said William Wordesworth in the presence of Thomas Ganson(?) NOTE that there was will of a Nicholas that was dated 10th September 1593 and proved on 20th November 1593. But this cannot be Nicholas the brother of William of Snowdonhill, because he is mentioned in the 1646 will of this William
Copy forfeiture and admittance CM/678 18 Dec 1595 Court baron of Lionell Rowlestone and Dorathee his wife, by right of Dorathee. It is presented that Ralph Bilcliffe and Richard Swift (to whom a surrender was made by John and William Bilcliffe to the use of Nicholas Wordsworth and John Bamforth) neglected to have the surrender put in writing according to the custom of the manor [of Penistone] to the injury of the lord and the detriment of those to whom the use was made. Therefore Richard and Ralph forfeit to the lord all the lands they hold by copy i.e. Richard forfeits one messuage next the chapel of St. John with croft, garden and lands John Dravill lately held, and 18 acres called Rodefield (saving the rights of Elizabeth Bottomley, Arthur Raybrucke and Grace his wife) He made fine 120s and was admitted to the forfeited lands at a rent of 23s. 4d. | In 1574 there was a documeny in which Thomas West was the Plaintiff and Ralph Wordsworth and his wife Agnes was the defendant. But I think that his father also married an Agnes so this could have been him!
