His father may possibly have been the John Wannop who was churchwarden at Newby in 1674 and was buried there in 1689.

In 1683 there was an indenture made between Humphrey Wannop of Irthington and John Gill of Great Corby. He was mentioned (with his brother John) in the will of his brother Gerrard

Humphrey made his will on 14th May 1727. It is not known which of his sons provided him with a grandchild Mary Wannop.

In the name of God Amen the fourteenth day of May in the year of our Lord 1727 I Humphrey Wannop of Newby in the parish of Irdington in the county of Cumberland being weak in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to almighty God, and calling to remembrance the uncertain state of this transitory life, and that all flesh must yield to death when it shall please God to call, doo make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following . . . .
First being penitent and sory for all my sins, most humbly desireing forgiveness for the same, I commend my soul to Almighty God, my saviour & redeemer, in whom and by whose merits I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and to have full redemption and forgiveness of all mysins, and to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. And my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named. And for the settling of my temporall estate, and such goods, chattels and debts as it has pleased God to bestow upon me I do order, give and dispose in manner and form following. . . . .
Imprimis. I give and bequeasth unto my som Christopher Wannop of Newby the sum of one shilling
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son James Wannop Clerk, the sum of one shilling.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Jeremiah Wannop the like sum of one shilling.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Isabel Graham, the wife of Robert Graham of Moorhouse in the parish of Warwick, the like sum of one shilling
Item. I give and bequeath unto by grandchild Mary Wannop the sum of three pounds of lawful British money.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Wannopp all my household goods whatsoever is now in my dwelling house at Newby aforesaid, together with all manner of bedding and bedsteads, chests, cupboards, brass, pewter, tables and all manner of wood vessell, long settle, chairs and goods of all kinds belonging and being in my sd house, freely to be possessed and enjoy by her and for her and to her use for ever.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my son John Wannop, now in Yorkshire or elsewhere, the full whole and just sum of fifty pounds of lawful British money, which sd sum I order shall be paid out of a bond of ninety pounds which my son Christopher Wannopp made to me in security of my sd son's portion John Wannop and my sd daughter Ann Wannops portion, when I set (?) over my estate to him. And I likewise further give and bequeath unto my sd daughter Ann Wannop forty pounds arising from the sd bond for an additional portion to her fortune. And my further will and desire is that the sd sum of ninety pounds so arising and coming due from that said bond (being now in the hands and possession of my son james Wannop Clerk) shall be paid to my sd son John Wannop and my sd daughter Ann Wannop and paid to them and either of them in share and proportion as by me before mentiond and appointed. And that the sd bond be called in from my said son James Wannop with six months after my decease. And I do hereby further constitute make appoint and ordain my sd son John Wannop and my sd daughter Ann Wannop joint executor and executrix of this my last will and testament of all the rest of my goods and chattels whatsoever. Hay, corn, bills, notes, rents or arrears of rents whatsoever shall happen to be due to me in any respect at my decease. And the same to be equally divided and shared between them (Excepting my household goods in my dwelling house which I have bequeathd to my sd daughter to be enjoyed by her as aforesd). And I do hereby utterly revoak and disannull all former wills by me before this time made. Rattifying, owning and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the day and year above written.
