Her burial inscription implies that she was aged 86 when she died in 1819, implying that she was born in 1733 rather than 1736. But this was before her parents' marriage.

"Also of Hannah daughter of the above Lenard Hodgson who died at Chelsea on the 24th of December 1819 Aged 86 years" (on the back).

A John Hodgson of Knarsdale married Margaret Furnace on 22nd May 1768, but this John Hodgson presumably died young, otherwise Leonard would not have named a son by Mary White John.

Her age of 68 given on her gravestone would imply that she was born in 1745, but I underestand that she was not baptised until 1752, which is something of an inconsistency unless she was baptised late.

In Memory of Lenard Hodgson of Slaggyford who departed this life Feby 22nd 1769 Aged 53 years.
Also Mary his wife who died on the 13th of June 1806 aged 73 years. Also Elizabeth their
daughter who died June the 29th 1813 aged 68 years.

George was a yeoman farmer and a cattle dealer.

He made his will on 26th February 1828, describing himself as being a yeoman of Slaggyford.
A codicil was written on 3rd April 1828.

Daughter Jane was bequeathed his mahogany chest of drawers, the rest of the furniture being shared with his daughter Mary. Jane received all the rest of his personal estate. They also inherited all his real estate in the parish of Knarsdale (except for a cottage house that was currently occupied by a William Brown) to be held as tenants in common.

I assume from this that the eldest daughter must have died before 1828, otherwise she would surely have been mentioned. But he bequeathe 5 pounds a year to his grandson John Bell, so presumably she must have married a Mr Bell. He also received the cottage house. There was a condition that he did not live with his father, so George and his son-in-law clearly did not get on!

Sons Thomas and Robert were to receive one shilling, but in the codicil were granted an annuity of 2 pounds and ten shillings.

Jane Proud and Mary Robson were mentioned with the expected married surnames when the will was proved on 8th May 1828.

The following gravestone inscription can be found at Knaresdale churchyard:

In Memory of George Hodgson of Slaggyford who died April 13th 1828
aged 74 years. Also of Jane his wife who died July 6th 1827 aged 77 years.
Also of John their son who died 28th May 1816 aged 31 years. Also William
their son who died June 7th 1823 aged 36 years [headstone]

I understand (from J W Robson document) that George and Jane Hodgson later lived at Hawick in Scotland - this is presumably why daughter Mary Robson (nee Hodgson) moved there with her son William and his family (Havelock House, Hawick). But I may have this all wrong!
