His will was written as follows:
This is the last will and testament of me Gilbert Joad of Ramsgate in the Isle of Thanet in the county of Kent, Mariner. I being of sound and disposing mind and memory I do hereby give and devise unto my beloved wife Mary Joad and to her heirs and assigns forever all and every such messuages, lands and tenements as I am possessed of or entitled and all other my real estate whatsoever with the appurtenances thereof and as for and concerning all and singular my monies, stocks, sea adventure effects, goods, chattels and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof to my said wife, she paying thereout all my just debts and funeral expenses and I do appoint my said wife to be the sole executrix of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all former wills by me made In Witness whereof I the said Gilbert Joad have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and sixty one and in the first year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord King George the third GILBERT JOAD - signed and sealed by the testator Gilbert Joad and by him published and declared as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have here subscribed our names at his request and in his presence Stephen ?, William Seale, John Flagg(?)
This will was proved at London on the eleventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixy two before the worshipful William Marham Doctor of Laws and surrogate to the right worshipful Sir Edwad Simpson(?) Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or commissary of the prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Mary Joad widow the relict of the deceased and sole executrix named in the said will to whomadministration of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased was granted she having been first sworn duly to administer |
