| !OPR(Marriages) for Midlothian shows James to be a Goldsmith. Bibliography:- English Goldsmiths, Charles J Jackson. "....The names of.....James Mckenzie occurs between 1773 and 1845". From the above publication it appears that that there were at least two, possibly three James Mckenzies practicing as Goldsmiths in this period. It is doubtful that the maker of the Tea Set for Hamilton & Inches in the year 1825-6 is the James, father of Kenneth Mckenzie (Mark - Mc.in Sq.) but rather he who was admitted to the Guild in the year 1747 (Mark - M in Rectangle with wavy top and bottom borders) who produced a Table Spoon for a Mr Chisholm in the year 1752-3 (Mark year X ) There is also a reference to a Jas. Mckenzie being admitted to the Privilages of the Guild in the year 1775 |
