| Thomas Baskerville was the executor of his father's will of 1740. I think that it must have been this Thomas Baskerville who married Mary Powell, because his father lived at Llowes as did Mary's father and that is where they were married.
There is a plaque set in to the floor of St Cewydd's church at Aberedw. . . T. BASKERVILLE died December 31st 1785 aged 82
My transcription from the Aberedw BT reads that Thomas Baskerville gent was buried on November 8th 1785, which is clearly incorrect. Perhaps it should have been January 8th 1786. Needs checking.
In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Baskervile in the parish of Aberedow in the county of Radnor being of sound mind, memory and understanding praise be God do make and ordain this my last will and testament in mannrer and form following as to my temporal estate. First of all I bequeath to John Baskervile(sic) the sum of ten pounds of lawful money. Item I give and bequeath to Edward Baskervile the sum of ten pounds of lawful money after their father's decease. Item I give and bequeath to Mary Evans (Davies crossed out) the sum of five shillings. I give and bequeath to John Baskervile the best feather bed and all that is belonging to it. And I do hereby constitute and appoint Thomas Baskervile my nephew for to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament, revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. Dated the fifth day of March in the year one thousand seven hundred and eigty(sic) five Thomas Baskerville Sighned(sic) sealed Publisd(sic) and declared in the presnce(sic) of us being witnesses hereunto David George Blacksmith Elizabeth George James Davies
Bequests to his nephew Thomas Baskerville, who was his executor, John Baskervil(sic), Edward Baskerville and Mary Evans. John and Edward would receive their bequests when their father died, so they cannot have been his own sons, and were probably also nephews. It follows that he must have had at least one brother as well as 4 sisters for him to have had nephews called Baskerville.
This is a bit of a puzzle, so it could be that this burial and will might relate to Thomas the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth of Llowes. But if so, them why was his will made at Aberedow? As the only son of the main line, I would have expected his will to have been more elaborate. |

There would seem to be a timing problem here. For this Elizabeth (of Llowes) to have married in 1715, she must have been born before about 1697 But her parents were not married until 1703, so something is presumably wrong here. I think that perhaps Nicholas married twice and that Elizabeth was a child of his first marriage.
She was mentioned as a minor in thwe will of her aunt Joan Baskerville of 1699, so must have been born then. She was bequeathed goods in her grandmother's will of 1707 (not proved until 1717) at which time she was still a minor. |
