First name shown as Ralph in Herald's visitations (Radnorshire Pedigree) Walter's birth year sometimes given as 1209 or 1179, but the latter is too early if his father was born in 1161. One report says that he died aged 26 in October 1213, but this is at odds with the IPM (see below). This remains a bit of a puzzle.
One report states that . . . .
". . .many of the Baskerville trees give the marriage of Walter Baskerville of Eardisley to Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Richard Pembrugge (eg Robinson's 'Mansions and Manors of Herefordshire', 'House of Cornewall'), their son Walter living 1272. This appears to be erroneous and presumably derives from a visitation or similar-type pedigree of later date. The invaluable article by Bruce Coplestone-Crow, 'The Baskervilles of Herefordshire, 1086-1300' (Trans. Woolhope Naturalists Field Club XLIII, 1979, pp18-39) identifies the wife of this Walter as Isolda, daughter of Walter Biset. Walter Baskerville died young in 1212 and Isolda had remarried a Pantulf by 1216. (Their son Walter d.1244, and the 1272 reference is actually for the next generation down.)"
