His baptism was found in the BTs for St Leonard the less, Samlesbury ("Rich fil John Sothworth bapt").
According to the IGI, the baptism date was 12th Feb 1635

Richard's occupation was that of a wheelwright, according to a lease of 19th December 1671 from John Southworth and Richard Walmsley on 19th December 1691. He was also still described as a wheelwright in his burial record in April 1705 ("Richard Southworth of Samlesbury. Wheelwright 19[th]"). He was the eldest son of John who was also a wheelwright/carpenter, after whom he named his eldest son. It is most likely that his grandfather was called Richard Southworth, because it was the custom to name the eldest son after the father.

With 53 others, including his brothers William, Henry and Ralph), Richard contribute 1 shilling annually towards the curate of Samlesbury as described below in Abram's "Vicar's Book" of 1683.

" We whose names are hereunto subscribed beinge inhabitantes in the chappelry of Samlesbury, and other townshiops adjoining, doe hereby promise to pay unto such Ministers as shall be appointed by the Ld Archbishop of Canterbury to officiate at the Chappel of Samlesbury afforsd. Such annuuall or yearly sumes of money as is hereafter declared and sett down"

He was still a tenant in 1695 (named in a list of "Tenantes per Dimision" of Samlesbury L.R.O. DDX 1119 6(2)) and in 1701 (15th May and 23rd October L.R.O. DDX 1119 8/1).

Wheelwright.
Contributed 6d to the stipend of the curate in 1683
An obligation on his brother Henry dated 19th December 1689 confirms that he had died just before then.

Possibly Jane Ormerod, marrying John on 10/7/1628 in Blackburn.
But this would leave 6 years before the birth of Elizabeth, so rather unlikely.
